Visible numbering

We need to require the numbering on the cars be dark numbers on a light backgreoun (Black on white).  This could be done on vinyl so that all of the sizes would be consistant and visible.  It is almost impossible to read the numbers on the cars durring the race and it is impossible to read them on tape durring a race audit.

GREAT IDEA I TOTALLY AGREE THIS IS NEEDED. In most other types of race events this is required.

A quick off the top of head thought. Maybe we can get three 7" X 10" (?) white vinyl signs with black 6" numbers made for each car and send these out when they register their cars and get a number. We could raise registration fee $5 to $10 per car to cover this. I don't know how much this would cost for 3 signs per car????. I know that to make it uniform across all school even in the NW would be nearly impossible unless we supplied them. Some numbers would be 3" tall, others would be 1/4" thick letters, others would be stylized and not easily readable, others would go with gold on silver, etc.....

Other ideas.

Hey Guys,

I own a vinyl graphics business here in Vancouver. We do a ton of graphics each year for local racers.

One of the series we run requires us to use number panels that are issued by the sanctioning body. These panels have a series sponsor on the top, and a class on the bottom.

Perhaps do the class number with the state below it? Been a while since I read the rules, not sure if the state lettering is still required.

If you guys end up doing panels, we'd love to come aboard and do them at cost.

I went ahead and made a proof of what I have in mind. Imagine the blue being the car's paint, and the white panel on top of that is vinyl.

If this is something you guys are interested in, shoot me an e-mail at Kyle (at) KKRProducts.com

Yes, more then likely could since it'd be just about a square panel. If you guys wanted us to ship them from us as well we'd need another dollar or so. Otherwise I assume we could just mail them down to hodgert and he could mail them, or whatever works!

Kyle,

We would not need the state (have never used that although I think the working is still in the book)or sponcer. Could you cut 3 of these for $5?

Kyle, So it would just be a white panel with cut outs for numbers that the car's body color shows through?

It could be if you chose, but how I envisioned it was black lettering on top of white panels. Makes it uniform and easily legible.

Exactly how it needs to be.  The black and white is a very visible color contrast.

That is what I was hoping for but from you email it sounded the other way. This would still by ~$5 for 3 with the same number?

Yes, so 3 panels for $5 plus shipping charges.

just a thought... as I recall the rules (i could be wrong) Numbers must appear on both sides of the car.... Maybe we should make that Both sides AND the nose of the car... it would make things a lot easier for the lap counting/camera/ and adjudicating type folks...

If I recall corectly it used to say that it had to be one the front too. looks like the wording was taken out for some reason.

It has always astonished me that teams build cars that the numbering is not clearly visable.  When you are counting a race and a pack of cars pass there will be misses if you can not read the number clearly.
