The car shown with Pres. Obama at the Science Fair at the White House is from San Antonio Tex.  The car has competed at the Emerald Coast Electrathon at Five Flags Raceway in Pensacola Fl.

The fair was all about Science and STEM.

Very cool and what an experience for the young lady to be asked questions by the president!!!!!!
I like how you made a Blue Sky design car have a good, safe, and legal roll bar. That is one of the problems with Mark's body and bottom pan. Do the plastic wheels hold up for you on tight corners? IN the NW we often have trouble with them breaking. A team at Lacey tried a pair and broke one and really messed up their car body and frame. The driver was fine though.
Hope you guys can make it out to the NW some time. It would be great to see how a top car from there and winner of a big Florida race would compare to the NW cars.

Congratulations and thanks for spreading the word about electrathon.
Mike

I am down here in Tampa, Fl with Electathon Of Tampa Bay.  I met the team from San Antonio a few years ago at Pensacola.  The team was half girls and they were all go getters.  I caught a glimpse of the corner of the car while watching the national news.  Went on line and found the pix of the car and the pres. Can't get much higher than the White House.

The STEM word opens a lot of doors.  Its the new buzz word.  It at least gets their attention and sometimes support.  Not much money but they let us do our thing.

Another area to explore is SkillsUSA.  It is the national organization for Career and Technical Education programs.  What we do fits in with their goals and competitions.

I retired from teaching Auto Tech and could not get any of my other Auto Tech teachers to get involved.  We added three more high schools this year all in the science and engineering areas.  We just picked up two more cars and will have them in the hands of two more high schools by the start of the next school year.  A new school in Sarasota is finishing a car for next year.  They picked Electrathon over Robotics because they said it was less expensive.

We start our season in Oct.  We should be up to 8 or 9 high schools and multiple cars and one college and half a dozen open class teams.

Vic,
Glad to see your program building. We are fairly stable in the NW. We pick up a couple of teams but we loose a couple of teams each year it seems. Money for schools in Oregon is VERY limited so many of the CTE classes are being dropped since it is less expensive to teach another English class.
Maybe some White house and presidential support would help congress understand that not everything should come out of a book and is not testable on a multiply question test!!!

The car is from San Antonio Texas, Southwest High school and the teacher is Robert (Bob) Franz. Hopefully he can add some more pictures and information to what Vic posted. What an adventure and memorable event for the whole team. Something they will never forget!
Great job Bob!!!!
