For those interested in helping to organize an event in NY, I've accumulated a summary of emails and pasted below.  So far Oswego seems to be our best bet, however someone would have to approach them and present the idea.  The last time we ran it was under different ownership and I don't believe there is a relationship with the new owners. 

Matt Bock - I am a tech teacher at Oswego High School. We have an electrathon vehicle and have gone to Watkins Glen in the past.
Being right in Oswego we would love to host an event at the speedway... what was the reason that it was moved?
I would also love to pick your brain about how to get started hosting event.

Would people be interested??

Chris Hurd - I bet if someone approached Oswego Speedway they may be very interested.

Matt Slauson - Just a possibility.   Last year after Watkin's Glen got canceled we were pretty disappointed, so I asked Welch Allyn if we could borrow their parking lot, which is huge. They let us run our car on a Saturday.  It is not a perfectly flat parking lot, so it would be more like a road race than an oval.  If this might be interesting to people, I will contact the appropriate people at W/A and see if it might work. 
FYI, if Watkins Glen does come back on line, I will not go unless we are guaranteed a rain date.  Too much work, paperwork and BS with the permissions to have it canceled with no make up. And to top it off we run in the parking lot and not the track.

Hey everybody, I am sorry but after racing in Watkins Glen more than once, one time on the track and the other time  in the parking lot. The only way I would race there is if it was on the track around the pit wall like before. I also remember the year that we did race at Oswego. We have to make sure that we are done before it gets dark, unless we can see about getting the lights on. I am pretty sure that the drive to Oswego is closer than going to Watkins Glen, and that's for most of the schools. 
My other question would be the date. Are we shooting for a Friday or a Saturday? Are we shooting for the Spring or just before school lets out, before exams?
I am in for Oswego, but not for Watkins Glen.

I have contacted Oswego Speedway.They have agreed to let us use the track for a race, most likely for an event in April on most likely a Friday.

 

The impression I got was that most teams in CNY were willing to travel to Oswego... So if this is the case we will move forward with planning an event!!

We have teamed up with Lockheed Martin and they have agreed to host an event at their facility in the parking area. We are tentatively thinking about a Friday in early May (either the 1st or the 15th) but would like to get an idea about how many schools would be interested in attending before we plan the whole event. If you would like to come and think one of those dates might work please shoot me an email at rmerithew.ocs.cnyric.org. I'm not sure about registration fees yet because it will depend on how much Lockeed Martin covers.

We are planning on hosting an event at Oswego Speedway again in the Spring. Check www.cnyelectrathon.org for updates.

 

Please help spread the word of the event... attendance was good last year but lets make it even better this year!
