The board is discussing a measure to help in saving trees, time and money and NOT sending out the new 2010-11 handbook in a hard copy to members. Instead it will be available on line at the NEW Electrathon America web site--check it out-- and also we may have it available to order from another site that would print a hard copy and send it to you for a nominal fee. This would save EA volunteers the time it takes to print and mail the hardcopies to each member. Along with the time it will save the reams of paper that this takes to print the 200+ books. EA also would save the cost of printing and the cost of postage.
I would like member's input on this decision to aid us in making this decision.

In this digital age, I find it easier and more convenient to look up the information on the computer. This change would save a significant amount of money which I am sure could be used in running and advertising events. My vote is all digital.

I personally do not think it would matter too much to have to print it out off the website, but the copy that EA sends out does make the organization look a lot more profesional. It is also my understanding that EA makes a prophit off the books, so stoping sending them out could actually cost us money. Also, we are selling memberships, people need to get something for the money they spend.

I thought about the membership fees and your valid viewpoint that people need to get something for their dues. If the money goes towards advertising and running events, as well as hosting this forum and the website, I would consider that money well spent. It would be interesting to know how much money was made from the printing and selling of books and how much would be saved by not doing it. My humble assumption was more money was spent in publishing than was taken in for additional copies ordered. I have been known to be wrong before though!

I would like Electrathon America to consider giving out a profession copy of the handbook to those sponsoring a race. When you pay for insurance a free copy would be given to that person. They could use it to refer to race rules at that race.
