Mark,
Glad to here that the new college Dean let you hold your 'event.' Remember nest time to call it an Electrathon Event--Not a race. Sounds much less scary!!

So what's the word on everyone? Who's going? Or is everyone still trying to finish their cars?
We sadly wont be there, I will be working, our new "driver" doesnt have his licence yet, and the car is still sitting how it was when it raced at Mt. Hood CC last year.
(For those who havent raced here yet, Very Rough Track is an understatement)

David Douglas will be there. No doubt about that.

Willamette will be there with between 6 and 16 cars. Only 7 cars running yet but many are close.

Mark should post the results soon.
The weather today was great! Last year we raced this race in a cold drizzle, this year it was clear and sunny! We were expecting about 20 cars if we were lucky, I think the total that showed up was 35. Luckily we got an early start and got everything ready with the track so we were able to start the signing in early too. Still got done just in time. This track is rough. Aligatored asphalt and lots of bad pothole patches everywhere. There were a couple casualties, drivers getting a little over zealous and running into curbs when they should be turning. The mighty wolverine (#38) broke and axle near the end and still took third place in the adult class. The axle was a brand new 1/2' grade 8 bolt and just not up to the serious pounding of the track (it was brand new, another one broke the last time it was driven).
A word to everyone about ballast weight. GET IT RIGHT! We had 3 drivers come in under weight when we weighed everyone post race. PLEASE carry a few pounds extra when you set your ballast. The unfortionate part of this story is one of the placing cars was one of the light drivers. A couple extra pounds would be better then finding out you are light at the end and loosing your laps.
Thank you Gresham Ford and Mt Hood Comunity Collage for the sponcering of this race, we had a lot of fun!

Aaron and Mark,
Great race. Even if the Wolverine (not badger) lost an axle on the last lap at about 10 mile and hour on a straight track. Too much air time and bouncing earlier with me 220 pound self , a heavy car at 145 pounds, and 72 pounds of batteries. At least even with my yellow top batteries going from 22 volts with 20 minute left to less than 16 with 13 minutes left and a broken axle I still beat all of the student cars (I think). Thought I had the Cloud cars for the first 40 minutes--oh well. Maybe the next race. Thanks again for both of your efforts and organization to get the NW Electrathon Race series off to a good start. By the way, looking at the non-corrected results I think there were 35 student cars and 5 adult. Be sure to post the results along with the miles traveled if possible--my kids always ask.
Jeff Blackman, see you on the Hood River city streets on April 3rd. At least it will be a smooth surface even if it has a 30-40 foot elevation change. Be ready for a large turnout it looks like all of the NW teams are growing and new teams are joining in for the fun!!!!!!!!
Jeff, do you remember the length of the track so I can figure the speed it was won at last year for gearing?
Thanks to all for a fun day,
Mike
