I've been interested in Electrathon for a while, now, due to a career change, I have the perfect opportunity to participate.
My name is Steve Griffing, aka: Stevie G, and I just started a career as an Engineering and Technology teacher after working as a Navy Nuc, and Hospital Engineer for the last...26 years.
Two of the courses I teach are Alternative and Sustainable Energy, and Research, Design, and Project Management. The Electrathon car seems like a natural fit.
I'll sit back and observe for a while, then hopefully I will have something meaningful to contribute.

Welcome Stevie
I heard through the grape vine that GA is trying to get a progam started there. You should be able to get some good help from the guys from FL

As with all start up programs let me a know if there is anything that I can do to help you get started. My school, Willamette, has built well over 200 cars so far and we go to about 13-17 races a year for the last 15 years so we have some experience and are very willing to share any and everything that we have learned. Feel free to ask questions, even if they seem to be dumb questions. If you are wondering, it then likely others are too. Someone here will gebnerally step in with some guidance or experience.

Thank you guys,
I had the opportunity to speak with a few of the Florida gang at The Run for the Peaches at Brookes County High School in May. Don Morgon put on a good show, and we all had a blast in spite of the rain. I even had the opportunity to serve as Lap Counter for the first race.
Looking forward to meeting more teams and exchanging information.
Thanks again,
Steve

Hello Steve, Sorry for the lateness of this. I haven't been on the site since our season was over here in Florida! Anyway, welcome to Electrathon. If you were at Quitman Georgia you saw me; I was driving the black # 13 car. If you need help, feel free to contact me. Also, if you are interested in how I build my cars, I did a complete step-by-step build thread on the construction of my white # 94 car (now owned by Foundations Christian Academy High School) on Club Hotrod. Aaron put a link to it on this site somewhere... You can also get to the edited version on the Tampa Bay website (www.electrathonoftampabay.org) and you can see the tentative schedule for this coming season. Hope to see you on the track.

Remeber you? Heck yeah. I actually plan to show your build up to my kids to give them an idea of the process so they can plan a timeline. The season approaches.

Well, if you have any questions or need clarification on anything, let me know. I am currently building a new car to replace the white one I sold. I am using the same basic design as it has proven to be very successful and competitive (It would be even MORE competitive if I wasn't so fat - 230 lbs!). On this new car I have raised the roll cage and the body profile a couple of inches to make it easier for me to drag my old wrinkled self in & out. Also, I am trying pre-fabricated go-kart spindles instead of making them myself this time...
Time line? As a retired teacher, just let me say... Good luck with that! Ha, ha! Set your timeline goal for January and, if your students are like mine were, maybe you'll make it in time for Pensacola in April!
Keep in touch. Jim

Just a quick note to let ya'll know that the Georgia Electrathon Association is up & running! The 2nd Run for the Peaches is scheduled for May 12, 2012 here at Brooks County High School. I'll try to do a better job of pre-scheduling now that my feet are wet! We had 12 cars last year 4 GA, 8 FL. looking for more. Would like to makle this a premiere event if we can get enough interest.
