Has anyone had success using the USB to serial adapter that came with their alltrax AXE controller? Mine worked last fall on windows 7, but fails this year. It keeps trying to update itself and then reports that the driver install has failed :(
I have contacted both the vendor and alltrax without a helpful response. My guess is that the adaptor my vendor sent (I bought the controller about 10 months ago) is based on a very old chipset. I'll order a couple of new adopters this weekend and give them a try next week.

I am using an Alltrax AXE controller on a golf cart. The USB to serial works fine. I have about 5 different USB to serial for different uses and some work on somethings but not on others. So much for standardization.
Are you sure you are using the same USB to serial that worked before? It is unlikely that the hardware went bad. It is quite possible that the drivers on your computer have changed. Check the obvious like do you have a solid connection (I have had problems getting the serial connection secure. Delete the USB-serial drivers and reinstall the proper drivers (not generic).
I have found that Alltrax gives good phone support. Check their website. Make sure you have tried all steps, then call them.

Yes, USB to serial cables are annoying. The look like basic cables... but they actually have a microcontroller which are frequently updated without changing the model number on the cable. My guess is that somehow a very old cable go stuck in my box by mistake. As a result, the new windows 7 drivers can't recognize the chipset.
