The first car from David Douglas.  This car has a couple of things that other electrathon cars used to use, or have never used.  Car #55 was built back in 1997.  It made use of a carbon fiber body with an aluminum frame.  The Boeing aircraft company helped design the body with David Douglas students building the body to help with the aerodynamics of the car.  Another unique thing about #55 is it's drive system.  It consists of using a Scott 1.6hp motor for movement.  This car has no chain drive. It's the only car in electrathon racing to have a belt drive system instead.  The graduating class that built it has gone; so, the car sat in a room collecting dust until recently last year.  Zaine Stapleton arrived at David Douglas in the fall of 2006 as a freshmen and had seen the car before.  He wanted to take the class with the car in it, but had to wait until his junior year.  Last year, Zaine asked his teacher if he could take the car home during winter break to work on it to have it back up and running and got the okay.  The race that reserected the car was the 2009 Mount Hood Community College race hosted by Centennial High School.  Care #55 was at six races in the spring, DaVinci Days in the summer of 2009, and the Eugene Celebration 2009 race in the fall. The car has been running ever since.

First electrathon event happened last weekend at Mount Hood Community College.  Both David Douglas cars finished in the top 10.  Kenneth was driving #55, and finished in 10th place!  Way to go Kenneth!
