I am also interested in the schedule of the MHCC race. I emailed the race coordinator and he said that check-in is at 8 am, but does that mean we need to have the car there ready to inspect at that time? We are a new team (Everett Community College), so if someone could give us a run down of how things are usually done it would be really helpful.
Check is just generally the start, up until about an hour before the race. You cannot test run on the track until you have gone through inspection. This being your first race it will most likely be a longer inspection and there is a good chance you are going to have to fix things on the car before you pass. You do not have to do test laps, but it can be helpful if it is a new car or you are unfamilair with the track. I would get there as early as possible, ask around everyone is always more then happy to help you fix anything or lend a tool or knowlegdge.
