My school currently has 1 and a half cars. We have one ready to race for our next race on the 26th but it is very unlikely that we will get our other car ready for this race. The car that is ready to race is 133, the one that is far from it is 80. #80 is our main car. Would we be able to make our 133 car the 80 car for this one race then when our car that is not ready to race is ready make that 80? Would that be aloud, I haven't found a rule on changing car numbers but I just wanted to make sure.
Correct me if I'm Wrong Mike, but I've seen Centennial High School from Gresham do just that. Also the Clouds have two cars with the same number (unless they are all in the long track race) then the numbers are different. But to answer your question, YES. You should be able to as long as the car numbers are in two separate heats. At PIR we have a long track race followed by a short track race. If Dave Cloud is running his fast white car (car #41) then it will be in the long track. When Dave is running the Sea hawks car (also #41) it will be in the short track race. A couple of years back Dave had all four cars running the long track race. The Sea hawks car which used to be purple and pink stayed #41, but the fast white car was renumbered #44.
Also, the Henrys who make the PakLite nine volt battery powered lights have several cars. Barclay (and I know for a fact) has at least two cars; a short track and a long track car. Both are numbered #2. On both occasions he had one or the other depending on the track.
I might do the same in coming years if I have another car or two built after I'm done with college.
You should be good, as long as you've got the number swapped out on the car. Make sure the transponder or whatever your lap counting system is is reconfigured to recognize the new numbered car, etc.
I would OK it but I feel like it is up the race steward for the race. As long as you pay for both #80 and #133 you have 2 cars that can race and the number switch from one to the other is not against the rules. A race steward might argue that you are able to move up in the standings by this but I personally don't see any problem with this and would allow it in the NW.
