The offcial Electrathon rule says that it must be a full faced, DOL approved helmet. I was wondering if there are exceptions to this if it is a closed canopy? I have seen it pass through inspection before. I was just curious if there is any rule or if it is just luck of who is inspecting the vehicle and driver?
I don't have time to confirm the rule book right now, but having been a "race host" myself in the past, it use to be that an inspector didn't have the authority to make exceptions to rules. The race host/organizer did have that authority, and takes the heat or consequences that may go with it.
Any recent race hosts out there that can site where in the "event rules" (not design rules) that this is specified?
Shannon and all: The rules were changed for the 2010 race season to say that all helmets need to be a "full face" style. They can be road bike helmets with visors like most motorcycle drivers wear or they can be an open faced Moto-cross style that has seperate eye protection. Either way they need to have the 'chin' part of the helmet not just the 3/4 style that several of us used last year. This was in responce to some safety concerns from some board members, some membership, and also K & K insurace wanted us to make this change.
