My school is using the Blue Sky Spindles and they use 1/2" axles, I also use there BMX wheels and I'm scared they are going to break... so i have been looking at making some new wheels but I'm having trouble finding hubs that will fit a 1/2 axle. Does anyone know where to get these?

Thanks for the help

HI Ryan,

If I remember correctly, you are running the 16" wheels. Have you seen any cracks or indications they might be failing? I would think that they would be stronger than the 20".

We had a hard time finding replacement hubs. We ended up getting Surly hubs and putting the hub on a lathe to machine out the hole that the bearing sits in to a standard size. We then bought new 1/2" id bearings. Getting square on the lathe was quite time consuming.

We do run 16" wheels, they take about 20% less side torque then the 20 inch but I was talking with Rodney with Tiger Racing and he was saying how when he traveled he has seen the 20" wheels brake and looking through here I saw that the Robinson team when he was at Astronaut HS he had many broken wheels. Making our own would be a problem since we don't have access to a lathe. I saw on ShiftEV.com they had bearings that replace 12mm ID to 1/2" on the Tomos moped wheels and I was thinking I could find a way to use those. Thanks for your help
