DC Brushed Motor Controller with Regen Braking
Permalink

Hello, I am looking for a motor controller that would be compatible with my school's existing motor, a Lynch LEM 170-127 24-48v brushed DC motor. We want to add regen braking to our vehicle ahead of our next race. Any advice on what to buy would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Regen is great and allows much more flexibility in how one drives the car.

Since Lynch is an english motor, most controllers seem to be from England, so they might be hard to find in the US.

In all cases, I would contact the manufacture and ask for recommendations.

Here is a possibility with 24 volt, 100 amps, regen: https://www.4qd.co.uk/product/porter/

The Lynch website mentions a couple: https://lynchmotors.co.uk/controllers-electric_controllers.html

The Alltrax link does not mention regen while the others do. Alltrax is a US company and readily available. I have dealt with them and find they are very willing to help and answer questions. I would suggest contacting them first and explaining what you are looking for.

I'm not clear on what exactly they mean, but it seems like it must do regen. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Alltrax-Controller-Yamaha-G19-Controller-XCT-48300-REGEN-300-Amp-/183318265086?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0

I reached out to several manufacturers, we are going to go with the sigmadrive pmt4825S, we just have to source one. We originally wanted to stay with alltrax because we have their SR series currently but it doesn't have regen, the XCT series does but is not comparable with the motor we have.

Thanks

Well I'm glad you found something suitable. If you wouldn't mind, please post a review of sorts of the sigmadrive controller once you get a chance to use it. I've never worked with one and am curious about it. Thanks and good luck with your racing!
