G'day again everyone,

 

Thought I'd share a few pictures of some of our newest cars from the eV Challenge - the west australian second-cousin of electrathon over here (www.evchallenge.org.au and www.facebook.com/evchallengewa if you're interested).

The cars are from the school I teach at - Comet Bay College. We're a public school just south of the capital of our state. Hope you enjoy them.

G'day again,

The 2023 race for us was on November 5th - only took me a month but the link to the albums on our FB page if here - EV Challenge | Facebook if you feel like having a look.

Our new car was this purple thing...

Aluminium body - got the kids to start learning how to use a shrinker/stretcher and English wheel to roll out some compound curves on the nose.

What kinda drivetrains, are you guys running down there?
...& at what kinda speeds?

Gday again. Most of the teams use hub motor kits usually used on ebikes. Our rules standardise the battery at 36v 17.5Ah for the senior classes, so most teams use some variation of a 36v hub motor, ranging from 500w to 1000w. In terms of speed the fastest cars we have will do about 60km/h flat out (37-38mph) but our average lap speeds around kart tracks top out at about 45km/h or 28mph. With our races being held on kart tracks weight is the biggest factor in performance. Aero matters too but only once youre going fast enough. 

Not sure how that compares to the electrathon held in car parks or on kart tracks but Id guess you guys are quicker.
